Position Description

The role of an Application Engineer is to be the subject matter expert as it pertains to Geospatial Innovations, Inc. (GSI) utility industry engineering gas and electric line design software applications.  The ideal candidate will have been a project lead with either utility experience or has worked with a utility performing overhead, underground, or gas layout and designs.  Other motivated candidates will be considered for this position but utility experience or education emphasizing utility processes is preferred.  The primary role of this position is to lead implementations of GSI’s engineering and design software applications while providing product expertise and leadership to a project team during customer implementation.  Tasks may include mentoring and training customers and co-workers, testing of software applications, customer data verification, creating customized test plans and training documentation.  If the candidate has an engineering degree, tasks may include verifying electrical or structural engineering analysis calculations related to line design, and other miscellaneous engineering related tasks as assigned.  This position does require travel to customer sites to perform some of the above described tasks.

High Level Job Purpose

  • Provide project leadership during a customer implementation of GSI’s design software
  • Provide technical product expertise during a customer implementation of GSI’s design software
  • Perform various configuration tasks to customize software for specific customers
  • Ensure product and configuration is correct and ready for production use at customer site
  • Provide on-site support and expertise for successful project implementation completion

General Duties

  • Interact with customers to determine implementation requirements and deliver solutions
  • Analyze and solve problems in a team environment
  • Facilitate training for customers of GSI’s engineering and design applications
  • Review and test product and customer specific data
  • Perform product testing
  • Manage and create product training documentation
  • Perform engineering calculations
  • Travel to customer locations to conduct various duties such as project leadership, training, and/or coaching
  • May require occasional work outside of traditional hours to meet deadlines, attend company events, or travel

Specific Deliverables

  • Excellent support of customer needs for both internal and external customers
  • Ownership and completion of assigned tasks based on customer and team needs

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, with degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering preferred but not required
  • Experience with Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Enterprise GIS a plus
  • Self-motivation & willingness to use initiative while working flexibly as part of a team
  • Very strong communication, computer, and writing/documentation skills
  • Ability to diagnose complex problems, determine relevant details, form solutions and communicate effectively required
  • Positive attitude to self-development, receiving feedback, and coping with change

GeoSpatial Innovations, Inc. is looking to hire a highly motivated and organized full stack Esri Platform Software Engineer to join our software development team working on Electric and Gas Utility focused solutions. Desired Skills/Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience developing with the Esri ArcGIS Platform Family (ArcMap, Pro, Server, JavaScript, Runtime)
  • Familiarity with other GIS platforms, such as Smallworld and G/Technology are also desired
  • 5+ years of experience developing application with Visual Studio and .NET
  • SQL Server and SQLite development experience
  • Multi-platform development for iOS and Android using Xamarin
  • Understanding of software architecture design best practices
  • Highly adaptive and capable of being an individual contributor as well as working as part of an extended team
  • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously and respond to frequently changing priorities
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering (or equivalent job experience)

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and develop software applications that conform to technical design specification requirements
  • Data modeling, design and optimization of new and existing database solutions
  • Test, troubleshoot, debug and maintain existing software and database solutions
    Create technical documentation on new design and enhancements
  • Work with source control and defect tracking systems
  • Analyze and help resolve software related issues from customer support team
  • Interactions with development team, third-party partner developers and customers for support and feature specifications
  • Estimate time, effort and steps required for development tasks
  • Provide development status updates to management
