DDS stands for Distribution Design Studio, which is engineering design software for large investor-owned electric and gas utilities across the US and Canada used to lay out and analyze overhead and underground power lines.
The concepts in DDS have been around for over 20 years. DDS was originally known as LD-Pro when it was developed by electric utility professionals at LineSoft Corporation. In 2002, LD-Pro was purchased by Itron and was used as the basis for creating Distribution Design Studio. In 2015, DDS became part of the GSI family of software solutions for electric and gas utilities and has since become the design and engineering software of choice for large investor-owned utilities.
DDS can be integrated with numerous brands of GIS and Work Management Systems. GSI has experience integrating DDS with Esri, Hexagon, Smallworld, Maximo, SAP, Oracle and others. These integrations are built during the implementation of DDS.
Yes, DDS supports the compatible units, parts and costs used at your company.
DDS currently supports several types of analysis, which includes finite element analysis of overhead structures (analysis of guys, anchors, crossarms, insulators & poles), conductor-to-conductor and conductor-to-ground clearances, cable pulling/pushing calculations, electrical analysis calculations (voltage drop, flicker, transformer utilization, conductor utilization and fault current) and electrical optimization for equipment and conductors.
DDS Designer is the companion application to Distribution Design Studio, however there is a standalone version called GSI Designer.
